ho says diamonds have to be a girl's best friend? I say, go for the gold! (Yes, I do realize this would have been more timely during the Olympics...) I simply love warmer gold tones, and when done right they can work so well for weddings. Here are some of my favorite ways to use gold for a wedding. You'll see that this timeless palette can have such a modern twist.
1. This invitation suite from EdenWeddingStudio is stunning! I love the Moroccan-inspired pattern and embellished font. It's just formal enough!
2. The cake! Talk about romantic...I'm loving these gold wedding cakes. Whether you go for a simple all-gold dessert, or choose to add decoration or use a unique texture, it's definitely going to be impressive.

3. Don't be afraid to try out gold for your reception decor! From your place settings to the centerpieces, there are many ways to go gold. A textured gold plate charger can keep things modern, and pairs well with a more traditional gold flatware. And why not top these beautiful tables with a gold-rimmed signature cocktail? So fun!
4. Last but not least... the shoes! Need I say more?

WEDDING TIMELINE TIPS from AMIE

very wedding is different, and this is part of why I love shooting them! As a team, we get thrown curveballs often, and we always have to make it work. Whether rain forces your photos to be done inside, hair and makeup takes longer than expected, or your ceremony runs long, most wedding timelines are constantly changing through the day. As a bride, you can spend SO much time planning everything to a T. Unfortunately, planning can only help so much! As I hinted at before, your wedding timeline is always going to be adapting as the day unfolds. Try not to panic! Instead, keep these guidelines below in mind when planning out your day.
Here are a few tips that can really improve your chances of staying on track - or what you can do if things get derailed.
1. BACKUP PLANS: If your ceremony is outdoors, make sure you've worked out a suitable backup plan with the venue. Chances are, you will have gorgeous weather on your wedding day, but you never know. The same goes with any bridal party, bride and groom, or family photos that you intend to have outside. As a photographer we'll generally have a backup plan in mind, but by all means scope out the area yourself and see what you like.
2. BUFFER ZONES: In your planning of the day, over-estimate how long you think things will take. Hair and makeup WILL take a few hours of the day, and little things like last-minute touchups or changes can add up the minutes. While you may want everything planned down to the minute, it's good to have 10-15 minutes built into each portion of the day to allow for wiggle room. This can apply to things like formal family photos or any travel to and from a ceremony site.
3. WHY WE LOVE FIRST LOOKS: I'll be touching on this more in a future blog post, but honestly - we LOVE First Looks! I understand that it's not traditional, and some people just don't want to do one. As photographers though, they give us a dedicated and guaranteed time alone with the bride and groom. We get to capture true emotion of you seeing each other for the first time that day - and let you take it all in for a few minutes. This also frees up time later in the day when we'd normally be doing bride and groom portraits, allowing you to have extra time to freshen up before the reception or just take a quick break from it all.
AmieENGAGEMENT SESSION TIPS from AMIE
I
just love engagement sessions! They're almost like a trial-run for the wedding day - art least in terms of being in front of the camera. It's also a great way to get to know your photographer better! At first you may feel super aware of the camera (or cameras) following you, but before you know it you're at ease, having fun, and enjoying some time with your fiancé.Here are a few tips I've put together for anyone planning on having an engagement session.
1. WHAT TO WEAR: You may scour your closet, assemble a board on Pinterest, or go on a shopping spree. Whatever you do to find your look - make sure you're comfortable in it! As much as you want to look fabulous, wearing a dress that you can't move in or shoes that are super painful won't always achieve this. Be yourself, and wear what you love! (And if you MUST wear those heels, maybe bring flip flops for trekking around!) Read more on this topic from a past post by Binita. Also, feel free to bring a second outfit if there's a convenient spot to change!
2. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: Ok, so clearly location is important. It should mean something to you (where you met, where you go together often, or just an area you love). That begin said, don't stress if you are clueless about where to begin! We have been on quite a few engagement sessions, and we're always a good resource for suggestions as well.
3. HAIR & MAKEUP: If you're able to, schedule your wedding hair and makeup trial run for the day of your engagement session. This is a GREAT way to take advantage of looking so glam! If you're unable to, consider looking into having your hair and makeup done, or take it into your own hands. Great excuse to pamper yourself!
4. TRAVEL LIGHT: Even if your'e bringing a second outfit, try to travel light. No need to lug around a huge purse or worry about leaving anything behind if your session involves frequent stops. You want to be mobile!
5. HAVE FUN! Lastly, treat this as fun outing - not something you're begin forced to do. You'll enjoy yourself more and end up with some natural-looking, romantic images too!
AmieSUMMER DAY TRIPS by AMIE
W
hile it's awesome to take a week-long vacation this summer, sometimes it's just not possible! No reason to scrap those summer travel plans! There are so many fun destinations in the Massachusetts are that you can just day trip to. Here's a quick rundown of some of my favorites - it was hard to narrow it down! 1. Martha's Vineyard: Probably my favorite of all! Sometimes a week on the Vineyard is just out of budget - thankfully you can get there in no time on the Vineyard Fast Ferry. There are 6 towns on the Vineyward - Tisbury, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, West Tisbury, Chilmark, and Aquinnah. I've only been to a few, but all are easily accessible via car, taxi or bike. Edgartown is always a good bet to explore for the day, with plenty of cute shops, hidden gem restaurants, and plenty of views from the harbor. Or if you want to get off the beaten path, check out the fishing town of Aquinnah.

2. Newport, RI: I just love it here - go for the day and feel like you've stepped into the lap of luxury! There are so many excellent restaurants and beaches to fill your day. Don't miss the Cliff Walk, where you can see some of the area's most impressive mansions. A great way to end the day is with a sunset sail around the coast.

3. Portland, Maine: What a fun city to explore... Portland is only about 2 hours away from Boston and well worth the drive. In a relatively small area, they sure do pack in the bars and restaurants! It's a great trip for foodies, and also offers a great selection of craft beers. A few of my favorite spots to stop into are Novare Res Bier Cafe, Grace, and Ri Ra Irish Pub.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. For the most part, this blog is a collection of my work, ideas, inspirations and things I've learned. If you're a bride & groom: sit back, relax and soak it all in... until your fingers get pruny! If you're a photographer: I hope you can take away something insightful from what I've learned about turning my passion for photography and cinematography into a career.
